LOCATION
Located on the north bank of the Caloosahatchee River: a country setting in the little town of  in Alva, 18 miles up the river from Fort Myers on Florida's west coast and less than an hour from SW Florida's International Airport (RSW). This modest country cottage is a simply equipped two bedroom, one bath home with a large screened porch and a beautiful view of the river. The dock is a wonderful place to view sunsets down the river and our launch site is on the shore next to the dock.  The river is also known as the Caloosahatchee Waterway - part of the across the state of Florida waterway from the Gulf of Mexico to Lake Okeechobee and continuing on to the the east coast and the Atlantic Ocean.

EQUIPMENT
The full variety of kayaks and equipment displayed on our website are available for your use.  Two canoes have also been added and safety equipment for up to four guests.  Fiberglass kayaks by NDK and Northwest, paddles by Big Spoon, Werner and Mitchell, and life jackets by Lotus.

PADDLING
What's available for paddling?  The cottage at our home base near where we keep Mirage, is very well located, not only to paddle in the Gulf of Mexico - within a 45 minute drive to some of the best launch sites (with car topping) - but also for great inland freshwater subtropical habitat.  There is wonderful paddling right from the cottage that doesn't require any car topping.  The Caloosahatchee River
itself is very pretty which gives access to numerous natural creeks lined with cypress, hickory, palms, and oaks with Spanish moss hanging from the limbs.

WILDLIFE
Domestic animal neighbors include Horses, Cattle and Alpacas, but there is also lots of wildlife.  We have observed a Limpkin (tall water bird) feeding on Apple Snails right on the river bank.  Several Pileated Woodpeckers search our trees for food.  Swallow-Tailed Snail Kites soar overhead and Red Shouldered Hawks excavate a Florida Mouse or Shrew from our grass.  Small flocks of White Ibis or Cattle Egret also stroll over the lawn feeding on grubs and Lubber Grasshoppers.  Occasionally we've seen Herons, Egrets,  a Bobcat and a Coyote.  In the river are many fish and turtles, including schools of Mullet and Snook, and the occasional Tarpon, Manatee or Alligator.
